It’s 90′ outside and all it takes is fifteen minutes, the time to do a quick errand, for your car to heat up over 109 degrees. At that sweltering temperature, brain, organ damage, heat stroke and even death can occur. The horrible reality is that statistics indicate that 36 children die in overheated cars every year in United States. This is every parents’ nightmare and I’m sure those parents never thought that this could have ever happened to them. Being sleep-deprived or just simply overwhelmed, can distract a parent long enough to possibly make this grave mistake.
Take steps for a peace of mind that this unfortunate event will never happen to you. Here are some solutions for you to try.
Just recently, Evenflo and Walmart has announced a new infant car seat that is designed with a sensor on the seat harness, so that when the ignition is turned off it will trigger a series of tones indicating the seat is still buckled in. This seat will be sold exclusively at Walmart for one year and we should be seeing them on the stores’ shelves by mid-August. However, it is already available now online. The nice feature about this seat is that you don’t need special technology (iPhone or Bluetooth) in order to use it.
Also, there’s an app for that. If you have an iPhone or Android cell phone, you can download two apps. The first one is called Baby Reminder, and how this works is that you program in the days and times that you are usually driving your children around in the car. The program is customizable and can be altered at any time and on the fly. The only gotcha is that you need to have your phone plugged in the car charger for there is a continuous use of a GPS running in the background. This can decrease the battery life in the phone. The second app, is called Kars4Kids Safety, which has a customizable alarm that goes off whenever you and your phone exit the car. It will remind you to retrieve your baby from the car seat through your car’s Bluetooth.
Any one of these solutions have great features and benefits to protect you and your child. Do your research to figure out which one will best suit your needs.
Happy and safe driving with you and your precious cargo!
