With royal wedding just days away, this grand nuptial will be the kick off to the wedding season. One cannot fathom the price tag on an event of this magnitude. Anyone who is now planning their own joyous occasion knows about the big dollar figure that is committed for the room where the event is being held, the attire, transportation, flowers and every imaginable possibility that makes up a wedding. At this day and age, the average cost of a wedding runs as high as $29,000. It goes to show that there is a significant investment here that is at risk to be lost.
Here’s the pessimist in me. So what happens if, through no fault of the couple, the wedding is canceled or postponed? Many people stand to lose a lot of money. When average folks who work hard for their money, plan on throwing grand soirée, insurance might be a good hedge against any possible wedding disaster.
Think about the possibilities that could occur. What if the photographer’s camera breaks? What if the caterer serves food that has been out too long in the heat and guests get food poisoning? What if one of your guests spends a little too much time at the bar and has a car accident upon leaving your reception? What if the place of venue burns down? Or worse yet, a family member of the engaged couple take seriously ill or dies?
When reserving a location for a wedding, some facilities may require that they be indemnified against liability. This is where wedding insurance can come in.
What is covered?
- Personal liability
- Cancellation/Postponement expenses, when due to unforeseen circumstances
- Gifts, which can add up to thousands of dollars in value
- Jewelry such as the diamond in the engagement ring
- Photographs and video, including restaging if necessary
- Rental property
- Special attire including wedding gowns and tuxedos
- Loss of deposits for venues, garments, and other vendors
Also, to help minimize risk by asking wedding vendors a few pointed questions:
- How long have you been in business?
- How many weddings do you do in a year?
- What is your cancellation and refund policy?
- What is included in your charges?
- How much do you require as a deposit?
Such insurance coverage of this event could cost no more than the price of one dinner plate, a good argument for leaving out that questionable guest in lieu of some peace of mind.
